Marion Barber is taken to a hospital for mental evaluation by police in Texas. We don’t have to guess why, do we? He’s another NFL football player who may have suffered one too many concussions from one too many hits.
If I had to do it all over again, I would not play football as I did as a young kid. I liked the strategy of it. I was not the fastest, but I could think fast and was good at knowing what a team was about to do, so I could often get to the play before it was fully executed.
But the sport has outlived its rules. Players are better training, bigger, strong, faster and quicker and the violence that happens on just about every play takes a dangerous toll on those who play it.
NFL players do not generally have a great quality of life once they begin hitting their 50 and 60s. Their bodies start to deteriorate, especially their brains. I love to watch the sport, as you do I suspect, but no way I would get close to a football field if I was a young man. I would take up golf.
I pray for Barber that he is not another victim of his violent sport
