What is wrong with us?

One of the main headlines in the Huffington Post read, “Officials Shocked by ISIS Atrocities.”

C’mon, how can anybody be shocked by what we humans do to each other. Slaughter has been going on for centuries and continues to this day in different parts of the world, including in the United States, or have you not read about shootings in schools and malls.

But the horrific things we do in the name of religion, especially by warring parties in the Middle East, is about as basic inhuman as you can get, if you start with beheading or rounding up the captured enemy, tie their hands behind their backs, take them into an empty field and mow them down with automatic rifles. Hitler would be smiling about right now if he were still alive.

What is wrong with us?
Where is my loving God?

I know one thing, if I was being shot at and was in a hopeless situation, I would not surrender to the bad guys. They would just take me into an empty field and mow me down. I would fight to my last breath.

According to the Bible, the world begins to crumple with the eruption of violence in the Middle East sparking the Big Bear of the North rushing in to join the battle. Are we getting there yet? I don’t know, but I don’t know how you can live in Iraq and be secure. Or Syria. Or any of the Middle East countries, including Israel, which is the black sheep that the rest of the countries there are trying to eliminate.

Then there are the Russian bombers that fly close to our coastline to test our air defenses. What is going on with that?

I sometimes sit in the living room and look out the window as birds fly into our trees and squirrels and raccoons climb them and wonder if they know what is going on around them in the rest of the world.

As I sit there and watch them cavort, my anxiety and blood pressure rises because as secure and peaceful as it sounds and looks I know at any moment as I sit there people are being slaughtered and the flames of war grow larger, brighter and hotter.
