Area’s top 800 runners could put on quite a show

It would be interesting sometimes this spring if  just for the heck of it local track and field coaches would hold an 800 race with the local talent that is available his season in the event.

I’d pay for see this one.

Let’s take a look at what we would see. We would have the state’s top 800 runner (by time) in South Kitsap senior Mason Villarma. Villarma has run the distance in 1:54.02 and right behind him in time is Central Kitsap junior Cameron Carroll, who has a 1:54.51 clocking.

It would be exciting just to see those two go at each other. But then we add in some more talented CK 800 runners in junior Christian Schwietermann (1:58.50), junior Blake Trujillo (1:58.75) and senior Austin Anderson (1:58.90).

We would have to add another CK School District runner in Klahowya senior Trent Mazelli (1:58.64) and North Kitsap junior Sean Crowell (2:02.17). To fill out the eighth lane on the track at Silverdale Stadium we would add Port Townsend senior Ryan Clarke (2:04.54).

Kingston Senior Garrett Rouser, who is headed to Harvard to run track for the Crimson, is the defending state champion in the 300 hurdles. He currently holds the best state 2A mark in the event at 38.69. His main competitor right now seems to be Gandview’s Steven Razo who has run 39.61 Razo finished seventh at state last year with a run of 40.38. Rouser won with a time of 37.97.
