LONNIE SHARKEY

Lonnie Sharkey finished the 42nd season of the Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association in grand style by winning his all-time leading 107th championship. None one else is close to the number of titles Sharkey has earned over the years.

Sharkey defeated top qualifier, Tim Clemens, 226-214, to win the James & Associates Open held at Port Angeles’ Laurel Lanes.

Just as Sharkey seems to win just about every other time, the winner of the Peninsula Bottling 205-and-under Division was a first time KSBO winner. Brandon VanWinkle led from the start and knocked off Darrell Scott 223-181 in the title match to win his championship.

This season was an oddity in that there was not one 300 game rolled. Nick Bachteler shot a 299 back on September 20 and that was the high game of the season.

The last time a 300 was not rolled in a KSBO season was in 1985. For the last 10 years, there have been an average of six 300s rolled each season. But not this year.
