Silverdale Sluggers take second in Silver Bracket at Triple Crown Baseball Nationals

 

The Silverdale Sluggers wound up going 2-3 and finishing second in the Silver Bracket at the Triple Crown  Fall Nationals Baseball Tournament for 11-year-olds held in Las Vegas from Sept. 11-13.

They lost their first two games in pool play in the 18-team tournament. The Sluggers were beaten by Frijoleros of Lynwood, Calif. 11-4 and lost to Strike Three Vipers of Las Vegas, 17-1.

The Sluggers, who were coached by Eli Herdman, then beat 805 Baseball Club of Santa Maria, Calif. 7-6 to advance to the four-team Silver Bracket. They had a first-round bye and then beat the Las Vegas Aces 8-1 to advance to the Silver championship game against La Puente Heat of La Puente, Calif. The Sluggers lost the title game, 8-5, to finish second.

Mason Shumaker, who lives in Allyn, won the game for the Sluggers against the 805 Baseball Club with a two-run walk-off single.

Mike Young, who lives in Sequim, pitched and won the game against the Los Vegas Aces. Chris Simonson, also of Allyn, Kadan Storm, Jaiden Balagatas, Easton Herdman, Brandon Silvelio and DJ Toms all had an extra-base hit in the game.

The Sluggers got down by four runs in the first inning to La Puente and battled back to make a game of it.

For the season, the Sluggers finished with a 54-21 record.
