The doubles team of Robert Ellis and Nick Bachteler claimed the last Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Organization’s final tournament – Lakeside Industries – of the first half of the season.
Ellis and Bachteler qualified in second place in the tournament held at Hi-Joy Bowl and won the title by beating David Mabry and Ryan Council 234-165 (bowlers alternated every other frame to complete one game) and in the championship game took down the tournament’s top qualifiers – Doc Patterson and Spencer Ludwig – 225-212 when Bachteler spared in the last frame.
The victory was the third KSBO title for Bachteler and the first for Ellis.
Kirk Gruber rolled his first 300 (and the first perfect game in a KSBO tournament in two seasons) in the qualifying round. His last strike was captured by video and has been posted on the KSBO page on Facebook.
This tournament was also KSBO’s annual Toys for Tots charity event and the organization was able to raise $800 that was given to the Marine Corp League Toys for Tots. Since joining this charity program in 1985, KSBO has donated $14,918.
The KSBO now takes a break before starting the second half of the season on Feb. 6 with the Tournament of Non-Champions at All Star Lanes in Silverdale.
In other local sports news, the Peninsula Umpires Association (PUA) is seeking new umpires for high school and recreational baseball and fastpitch softball (ASA or NSA Leagues). No previous experience is needed and training clinics are provided in January and February.
