Warren Cox rolled a strike in the last frame to become the 2017 King of the Hill for the Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Organization’s 32nd annual tournament of Non-Champions/Champions sponsored by Don Holtz, Realtor and Talbot Excavating that was held at All Star Lanes in Silverdale.
Cox won the Champions portion of the tournament and then edged Non-Champion winner Jimmie Dillingham in a one-frame bowl-off after the two tied at 192 in regulation. This was the first time in history of the KSBO that there had been a tie. Cox won it by striking while Dillingham could get just seven pins with his one attempt.
It was the eighth KSBO title for Cox, who won the Champions Division by qualifying fourth and then beating Mike Hansen 245-199, Tom Anderson 229-156 and Lisa Barfield 227-207 to reach the TV Finals against top qualifier Mike Karch. He beat Karch 230-183.
Dillingham won the Non-Champion Division by taking the lead from the get-go and then stopping Casey Jamrog in the TV Finals, 187-171.
A total of 81 bowlers competed. That was the largest group to bowl in the tournament since 2004.
Next up for KSB is the Lakeside Industries sponsored George Peabody Memorial Open Division and the Seven Sevens Casino 205 and Under Division that will be held Saturday (Feb. 25) at Laurel Lanes in Port Angeles.
