It’s time to end the costly war in Afghanistan and bring out troops home

TERRY MOSHER

The Trumpster, after consolations with his military advisers, will announce Monday what his administration’s plans for the nearly 16-year war in Afghanistan will be. It’s been a costly war. It’s been estimated based on things such as veteran’s health care, disability costs and interest on borrowed money, its cost us taxpayers nearly $6 trillion.

That doesn’t account for the nearly 7,000 U.S. troops killed.

And what do we have to show for it?

The Taliban control an estimated 60 percent of the country.

It’s been said that Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires. Russia (the old Soviet Union) and Brittan along with Alexander the Great all failed to send Afghanistan to its knees and saw their empires crumble.

Now, it is us.

I don’t pretend to have a clue what the Dumpster Trumpster will say – although knowing his great media savvy I will guess his speech is intended more to deflect attention away from his ugly fascist comments on Tuesday and from Bob Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in our election – but if he has any guts at all, and I suspect he’s the biggest coward this side of Tiny Tim, he will announce a withdrawal of our troops.

We should not be in Afghanistan. It’s time to rid ourselves of that money and human money hole and use our money in a more practical and necessary way and help heal a country that the Dumpster has divided.

Let the Taliban have it. At least we then will know where they are and if we want to do what Bill Clinton did on August 20, 1998, bomb the heck out of them with missiles fired from a harmless spot hundreds – if not thousands ‑ of miles from there.

That is enough of this.

Be well pal.

Be careful out there.

Have a great day.

You are loved.
