DAVE RYLES AND MOLLY
By Patti Ryles
I’m back in town after a nice, relaxing week in the sun. Dave did well while I was gone thanks to all of his friends who visited with him.
He is doing well in the progressive eating group. So well in fact that as of yesterday they discontinued the feeding tube. They will not remove it, just are not using it unless Dave starts to lose weight. He is also walking a little with his therapist using a cane on one side and holding the hall rails on the other side.
I have been working with a placement advisor, Melissa, trying to locate private adult homes that have openings and would take Dave. Dave’s Medicare coverage ends in early January and due to the cost, we cannot keep him at Issaquah Nursing and Rehab. I will be touring some homes in the next few weeks and hopefully we can find something closer to Duvall.
Melissa, the advisor, met with Dave today and told me that he will definitely have to go to an adult home. It wasn’t news to me but I had really hoped to bring him home if he could physically take care of himself. Melissa said with his mental issues, bringing him home just isn’t a possibility as it’s a safety issue for Dave as well as for us. I knew this but my heart just didn’t want to accept it. All he talks about is coming home and I don’t think he’ll understand because in his mind he isn’t sick.
Thanks again to my family and all of his wonderful friends who haven’t forgotten him. Patti
