The first Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Organization’s tournament of the year (and the 46th overall) went down to the 10th frame in the championship match at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard. Mike VanWinkle, who climbed into the lead after the semifinals, struck out in the 10th to edge Tom Jamrog 243-238 and win the Westbay Napa Auto Parts Open and his 17th KSBO title.
VanWinkle rolled games of 259-235 and 243 in the semifinals to lead the pack of five bowlers in the finals. Jamrog was sitting fourth in the finals, but got on a big roll to knock off Tim Clemens 242-204, Charles Cunningham Jr. 214-198 and then Cameron Kerlee 234-224 to reach the final match-up with VanWinkle.
In the Tom Myers R. Memorial 205-and-under Division, Frank Showalter grabbed the lead in the semifinals and stopped Duncan Whitaker 204-158 in the championship match to earn his first KSBO title.
Prior to the tournament, The KSBO honored Johnny Bryan the Tom Myers Sr. Inspirational Award.
