Ben Runge won the third annual Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Organization’s George Peabody Memorial sponsored by Campbell Roofing. Runge led five others into the TV finals, including Kitsap County’s top bowler, Lonnie Sharkey in sixth place.
Sharkey won a three-person shootout in the first match, knocking out Mike VanWinkle and Tim Clemens. Sharkey then beat Brandon VanWinkle 245-191 and Curtis Messer Sr. 2016-167 to meet Runge in the championship match.
Runge struck out in the 10th frame, forcing Sharkey to strike out to beat him. He couldn’t do it and Runge won 235-211 to claim his first KSBO title.
Bob Zurbrugg qualified third out of six finalists in the Seven Cedars Casino 205-and-under division and was able to win three matches in a row to win his sixth KSBO title.
Zurbrugg defeated Aaron Austin, 217-190, Quade Beck 218-213 and top qualifier Preston Craig 223-216 to earn his title.
Next up for KSBO is the Grey Chevrolet Open and the Truth Chiropractic 205 and under division on April 6 at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard.
