TERRY MOSHER
GREENWOOD MASSACRE
TOP OF THE TOWN – So the police shoot and kill another black man, this one Friday night (June 12) as he was running away. What the hell is going on in this country? We have a President who thinks its fine that army bases in the South are named after treasonous Confederate generals that tried to overthrow the United States in the Civil War, he fails to disown the KKK, and he’s against taking down Confederate statues because they are beautiful. Because I know Trump doesn’t do anything unless it will help his reelection, his love of Confederate symbols is a campaign strategy to divide the United States into two camps, with his camp made up racist white men who like guns, police and brutal assault on protesters, which fairly describes Southern states. Trump hopes to add to those Southern States by inciting white men racists in swing states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Pennsylvania to his side. If he can do that and pick off Florida he is back in the White House. But to do this Trump needs to employ the famed Southern Strategy first used in 1964 by Barry Goldwater and picked up by Richard Nixon in 1968 and ’72. The South, believe it or not, was once a Democratic stronghold. But the South quickly went Republican with the passing of the Civil rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 signed by Democratic President LBJ. The Southern Strategy was a plan by the Republican Party to appeal to racism by white voters against blacks. It worked and the South is now regarded a Republican stronghold. Every state in the South with the exception of Florida, North Carolina and Virginia is Red (Republican) and Florida, North Carolina and Virginia are considered swing states because they could go either way. After the 2016 election, the Republicans held 22 Red states with 179 electoral votes and the Democrats held 15 Blue States and D.C. with 195 electoral votes. A total of 13 states, including the three above, are considered swing states worth 164 electoral votes. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win election. So look which swing states have the most electoral votes and that is where your candidate needs to spend a lot of time campaigning. Florida is the biggest with 29 electoral votes followed by Pennsylvania (20), Ohio (18), Michigan (16), North Carolina (15) and Virginia (13). If Trump holds the Red states and wins all the above swing states except Virginia, he wins reelection with 277 electoral votes. There are other combinations for him, of course, because swing states Nevada (6), Colorado (9), New Mexico (5), Wisconsin (10), Indiana (11), New Hampshire (4) and parts of Maine (4) are in play. Biden, of course, would have an easier route to victory if he held on to all Blue states and picked up swing states worth 75 electoral votes. So if he could pick off Florida (29), North Carolina (15), Virginia (13) and his home state of Pennsylvania (20) he would have 272 electoral votes and be the winner. Trump is opening his campaign swings by going to Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 20 for a rally. That opening bid makes no sense because Oklahoma is deep red and very white … unless he is trying to rile up his white racists base by thumping his nose at the blacks that were slaughtered there in 1921 by an angry white mob intent to show the blacks who was the boss on the day blacks were liberated from slavery and given their freedom. For an estimated 300 blacks there was no freedom, only death. This rally there by Trump is just not an insult it’s him thumbing his nose at blacks and he is betting his white racist supporters will love him for it. Trump isn’t going to be done inciting racial violence because he has scheduled to hold his acceptance speech for the Republican nomination for President on Aug. 27 in Jacksonville, Fla. This is no coincidence. That date is the anniversary of Ax Handle Saturday. A mob of about 200 white people attacked a peaceful protest of blacks sitting at a white’s only lunch counter. The protesters were chased through the streets of downtown Jacksonville by the mob beating them with ax handles and baseball bats. The mob also attacked other blacks they found during the chase and when a black street gang jumped in to defend the protestors some members of the police joined in on the beatings. Read the book “It was never about a hot dog and a coke” to further explain what happened. In an Internet story on Trump coming to Jacksonville, Ben Frazier, a civil rights leader, said, “To many of us, what we have coming here on this day of commemoration of Ax Handle Saturday is the person who represents in the United States today the epitome of racism and white supremacy, To say the name Donald Trump while commemorating Ax Handle Saturday gives us the classic definition of oxymoron. His comments have fueled and propelled what I refer to sometimes as the engine of racism in the United States.” This is what Donald Trump wants. He has said that he enjoys dividing America. He likes the chaos and turning racist whites against blacks and likes the idea of using the military to go after protesters, who he has called thugs. He wants the police to crack heads. This is a racist man full of hate and darkness. We must continue to shine a light on his darkness, turn back his hate with love, and stand united even though we disagree politically to fight this ugliness. Trump has to be defeated to save us and our country. With Russian help he got into our People’s House (chicken coop) in 2016 and is killing off the chickens and destroying everything in sight. We need to get him out. NOW!! Be safe. Take care.
Be well pal.
Be careful out there.
Have a great day.
You are loved.
