TOP OF THE TOWN – Nick Bachteler earned his sixth Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Organization’s when he won the Westbay Auto Open tournament at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard.
Bachteler finished third in qualifying and then beat Cameron Kerlee 212-186 and Jamie Watson 236-149 to run into top qualifier Charles Cunningham in the TV Final. Bachteler pulled away to win 249-207.
Watson rolled a 300 game in the semifinals,
Duncan Whitaker finished second in qualifying in the Tom Myers Memorial 205 and under division survived an anxiety riddled one-ball roll-off with Dane Terpone when the two finished tied at 214 after 10 frames to advance in against Preston Craig, the top qualifier, for the title.
Whitaker didn’t take any chances in the championship match. He started off with a spare and then rolled10 consecutive strikes before leaving one pin on his final ball to win easily 289-204 for this second win of the season.
This finished the regular bowling season for KSBO, which had been shuttered by COVID-19. Because of the uncertainly of the situation with the virus, the 2020 season, which will be the 48th for the organization, is under discussion. A decision will be announced later. One thing for sure, the annual Toys for Tots doubles tournament will be held Dec. 5 at Hi-Joy Bowl.
