COVID-19 got the Huskies before the Trojans could

TERRY MOSHER

TOP OF THE TOWN – For the record, I didn’t believe Washington would beat USC in the Pac-12 title game. The Huskies aren’t yet ready for prime time and the Trojans have too much depth. But COVID -19 got the Huskies first to the conference North champs will sit idle while Oregon, second in the North, play the Trojans Friday night. USC will win that one, too. While I’m at it, I think the Seahawks will lose in Washington, which has a better defensive front than the Giants and we all know what the Giants did to the Seahawks. A lot depends on whether Bremerton-born Alex Smith is able to recover from the ankle injury he suffered last weekend in Washington’s win over the 49ers. Smith is a calming influence on his team and doesn’t make mistakes. We have a rematch Saturday with Clemson at Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish won the first game, although Clemson was without Trevor Lawrence, who will play this time around, and he will make the difference in Clemson’s revenge. Tulsa at Cincinnati and Louisiana at Coastal Carolina are two interesting battles. All four teams are smaller D-1 schools seeking to become big-time. I picked Mississippi State, led by coach Mike Leach, to beat Missouri. I normally would pick against a Leach-coached team because he doesn’t veer from the Air Raid and often that is a determent to succeed. But Missouri has shown it will give up points so I’m taking an exception this time and picking Mississippi State. In the NFL, besides the Seahawks getting upset I feel Buffalo is walking into a trap game at Denver and Philadelphia might pull the upset at Arizona, although I picked the Cardinals. And Cleveland will get beat by the Giants in an upset. That’s it for today.

Be well pal.

Be careful out there.

Have a great day.

You are loved.
